Administered in cooperation with the UHM Outreach College (www.outreach.hawaii.edu), the Pre-College Summer Program is open to college-bound students who have completed the sixth grade. The junior track (June 15 – July 10) is for students who have completed the sixth, seventh, eighth, or ninth grade; the senior track (June 15 – July 24) is for students who have completed the tenth, eleventh, or twelfth grade. In addition, the senior high school track allows students to earn up to six college credits and fulfill the two-year Hawaiian/Second Language requirement at the UHM.

In the Pre-College Summer Program, students will develop advanced Korean language skills as well as an in-depth understanding of Korean culture. Following an innovative and age-appropriate curriculum, the Pre-College Summer Program will engage students in real-life tasks and projects closely related to subjects they learn at school such as social studies and language arts. In addition, specialists in various areas of Korean Studies will give guest lectures and hands-on demonstrations on relevant topics.

The goal of the Pre-College Summer Program is to elevate students’ Korean language proficiency level to Advanced-Low (on the ACTFL scale). Students who complete this program successfully may consider advancing to the Certificate in Korean for Professionals or the B.A. in Korean for Professionals.
